Blue smoke means the engine is burning oil. Could be that the valve seals are gone or that the rings are worn out. Before you go messing with the heads, you should do a compression test to see if the rings are bad. If the rings are good then try a new set of valve seals, which can be changed without removing the heads. However; if the valve stems or valve giudes are worn, the new seals won't help much.

Generally as a rule of thumb, if you're blowing blue smoke while the engine is under a load, it's your rings. If you start to blow blue smoke when you get off the gas, it's your valve guides/seals.

ok, well then...interest..so say its the vavle guides, my friend told me to do this, can anyone supply parts link. i lookd at summit and didnt find to much... "Pull the heads. Get new head bolts, valve guides, valve springs - 105 lb or better (130 is best to reduce chatter at higher RPMs), oil-restricted pushrods-preferably chrome moly. Check SLP and Summit for both. I think Summit's prices will be better. Check for pitting on the valve seats - if bad, send to shop for a 6-angle job. Deck the heads by no more than .030 if you have the valve seats done. Summit has the over-thick gaskets; I believe they are FelPro."
