Default 98 V6 cylinder 3 misfire.. PLEASE HELP!!

I have a 98 v6 3.8 3800 series II camaro. Recently my check engine light has been coming on. The codes came up as EGR Valve malfunction and cyclinder 3 misfire... so long story short I replaced the EGR valve. I found one on ebay and it was listed for a 93-02 camaro valve. I dont know if that matters cuz I know that that 93-97 and 98-02 are different generations but that code did go away. So the only code that still on is the cylinder 3 misfire. I just replaced all the wires and plugs. I even checked my coils. They were alittle under the recommended readings but it looked like they were fine... (.08 ohms and .5 ohms) . So I'm at a stand still. Dont know what to do and dont want to spend an arm and leg at a dealership to get it fixed. It runs fine but just isnt running smooth.

I really need the help. Im driving out to Oregon on the 25th and dont need car problems. If you guys could direct me on anything please post. Just a heads up. I'm pretty new to mechanics so try and explain everything as simple as possible..........

Try swapping coils & see if trouble moves.
Double check ignition wire and plug
Make sure #3 plug is actually sparking
Make sure that #3 injector is being fired (use NOID light)
Make sure #3 injector is squirting fuel (will have to remove fuel rack with injectors and observe while engine is being cranked)
Do a compression check on all cylinders and compare (variation should be no more than 10%)

Ok... so when you say swap the coils can I just take the 2-5 coil pack and switch that with the 3-6?

How hard is it to take off the fuel rack? And what is a noid light?

Really appreciate the response, but new to this stuff so not sure with all the terms. Thanks tho man

You can move the coil packs around. Spark sequence is determined by the ICM under the coil packs. For the fuel rack you will have to remove anything that is on top of it first. NOID light is a is a neon or LED lamp that is inserted between the injector electrical connector and the injector, lamp flahes whenever the PCM fires the injector. You can get set for under $30. If you are going to tear things apart, I suggest you get a repair manual for your car.

I had the same problem about 5 years ago on my 99. Replaced the coil pack and haven't had any problems since

My 97 Camaro had a misfire in #4 when I bought it. I changed the coils and had a spare ICM/ECM (not sure what its truly called). The numbers on written on them is just to help as a guide incase you take off your plug wires. The firing order will be the same if you move them around but will truly confuse someone who has no idea what is going on with them. I think MSD makes a pretty cool coil pack, cost a little more then OEM but have the same quality. Its just who you chose to use.

Also know that your wires could have issues too since they are so close to the exhaust they can touch and burn through which could also cause your problem. Try some of that heat shield wrap. I need to wrap mine so they dont do that to me and leave me stranded someday in Hawaii.
