Default 97, 3.8 v6 belt length

I know its rather misleading but I got my Camaro back in august last year and I went about trying to fix a squeek from my tensioner pulley. Replacing with a new one to find out that the belt is too large for the set up without an Idler pulley and Air Compressor. I went about getting them as salvage from another Camaro but I'm curious if the Camaro could run without those two pulley's and without Breaking the new tensioner in any sort of way.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I do not know the answer to you question but I moved the question from the Projects section (which is for long documenting car building threads) to the V6 tech section.

I do not there is a cheap way to fix this. I looked into it along time ago and there was after market part available, I think from the racing world, but they cost more then a rebuilt compressor. Things may have changed.
