3800 Series II/III Engine Replacement Info.
Whats missing. First step is to check for fuel and spark.
Do you have fuel pressure?
Do you have Spark to the plug?
Do a signal to the injectors?
It is easy to forget a PCM connection under the dash. Spark plug wires in the right order? There are just so many places you could have missed a connector. Crank sensor, Cam sensor. If you have a way to check for codes or verify the PCM is seeing RPMs it could make this a lot quicker.

How do I verify PCM is seeing RPMs?
Could it be simply relearning the CPS, since the balancer came from the Firebird and the CPS came from the donor car? Should the CPS have been swapped with the balancer/flywheel?
Will check for fuel and spark when my mech gets a chance to bring some tools.
Thanks again.

You would need some type of scan tool, the cheapest way is a OBD2 blue tooth connector and some type a smart device. At this point I think just about anything will work. I dusted off a 4 year old android table and got it to work. With that you can display RPMs.
Search amazon for OBD2 blue tooth. The last one I bought I think was $13 to my door.

best to confirm using scanner. if you cant for some reason you may want to try the other cps. an while you got the balancer off check the fins on the inside the balancer to make sure they are not bent or damaged.

After Gorn told me a FWD engine would cast the same with half the miles for the same engine out of a Camaro I decided to go this route. So I have my dad helping me and he says this shouldn't be too bad but does anyone have any tips they would like to share? BTW going with a series 3 with either 32,000 miles or 42,000 whichever one is still there when I go to pick it up.

the vin 2 series 3 engine will bolt up and work with the bird trans so if the gp is vin 2 then it will work. if you want to try an use the gp trans in the bird, like gorn says it wont work. if the gp is supercharged dont use it.

Hi. I am doing this exact same swap (FWD engine from LaSabre) into Firebird, 2002 model but have come across a few problems that I haven't seen mentioned. The guide mentions that the dampener and flexplate needs to be swapped over. But both parts are apparently installed using TTY (torque to yield fasteners) which are discontinued from GM and no longer available. Certainly the dampener bolts is for sure discontinued. Seems really stupid that a 16 year old car can't get parts that are "required" to be replaced after removal and can't be reused. I have seen the dampener bolt available for the FWD models but not for the f-body which uses a different dampener (thinner). Does anyone know a solution to this or what is everyone else doing about this, just reuse the bolt? And the torque specs are quite serious. If the bolts are already stretched and fatigued from (yielding), would there be a higher possibility of snapping the darn things inside the crank? Also, because the original firebird engine already has 192k miles, I am thinking that maybe it would be wise to replace the dampener too while I'm at it. But the dampener is also discontinued too. What??? And nobody makes a replacement. I have always wrenched on old classics and these newer cars are frustrating the heck out of me. Seems the lifespan of these things are gonna be rather short if we can't get simple replacement parts anymore. I am highly tempted to just stuff in an old school SBC since parts are always going to be plentiful and I'm in a state that doesn't require smog checks but right now, I've got this replacement motor which I'm prepping to swap in, so one way or another, it's going to go.
