Do yall think a 3.8 supercharged engine from a Grand Prix will fit my camaro

 

Please use the search, it has been covered 7000 times. Search supercharger in the V6 forums or M90 which is the model of the supercharger.

 

the search did not bring up much info about super charger for me,but I hear it can be done ,then engines will fit from a lot of buicks chevys from diffrent years the 38l is a very universal engine ,04 gran prix has 260hp to the regular 200hp not SC ,so there 60hp difference this was google search an also youtube is a place to check

 

Please link your information. Is it from people who have done it? because I only know of 2 cars that have done it and it would cost you 2 to 3 times more then your V8 conversion did. Think about it this way, the FWD Supercharger pull air from the back of the supercharger which is over top of the transmission. What is over the top of your transmission? Your radio? It would make it real easy to have a hand controlled throttle.

 

How many hours can be expected to do this swap from an experienced certified mechanic? 20 hrs?

You mean the supercharger swap? Most experienced certified mechanic are not fabricators. You can not buy the parts need for the swap you make them. For what it would cost to have a custom shop do this for you, you could buy a nice low miles ls1 Z28 that would run circles around your supercharged V6.

If you are talking about the SII swap, 20 to 30 hours. If you can find a pro who has done it before you may get close to 20 hours but there is no Mitchell book time on things like this. Most real mechanic will shy away from it because things can go wrong. All it takes is one pc of miss information and they will need to redo the job or tie up a lift while they are waiting for parts. It tuff to quote a job that does not have a written process. Most shops would not even quote putting a SII fwd engine in a Camaro because the Mitchell manual says it is not a direct fit. I guess its all opinion until you find a shop that is willing to entertain doing it.

 

Sounds like the idea of a supercharged 4th gen is more a DIY fantasy for those equipped (garage, lift, shop, time, money, experience), than a practical way to replace a 3.8 sIII. I always fantasized about that perhaps just because it is a great engine and would be a unique outfit. Might have been a great solution if GM had made parts for that but they know their market was hip on the V8.

 

Talking about the L26, my shop found a Series III for $1100 w/12k mi! Amazing. Looks like labor will be ~$1800 to swap over parts & install, assuming nothing swapped over also needs replacement. My original engine developed what seems to be a worn main bearing knock at higher RPMs, and that would only get worse from there.

 

place i got mine from wanted 800 for a l26 with less than 10k on it. been setting for years though so i passed on it. went with one for 400 that has 60k on it
