2002 E-Brake Adjustment
hey guys my car is not holding itself in place when i pull up the e brake. how do i tighten this up. My understanding on 2002 camaros they are self adjusting.....so why isnt it self adjusting itself?? Can anyone tell me if i can adjust it myself and what the procedures are. When i went to get my car inspected they failed me on this. So any help will be greatly appreciated so i can get my tag. Thanks

With the 99-02 disk brakes the parking brakes are shoes in the rotor that hold everything. This is not self adjusting. Take off the rotor and turn the star wheel until they spread out a little and barely make contact with the inside of the rotor. Do the same for the other side and test.
The paking brake shoes do not have much of a lining on them and should not be used to stop the car unless it is an emergency and your other brakes have failed. These shoes are like $60 to $80 depending on where you go.

I laugh when people call the parking brake an E-brake and are under the impression that it is an emergency brake. This brake is designed to hold the car in place after it has already been stopped. If used properly it shold last the life of the car. Attempting to stop a car with the parking brake will only generate a ride to the E-room. lol
