95 3.4 Not starting without help
I'll start of with this camaro has a
3.4 SFI (s1G3.4VV8GAEA/s1g1058aym0b)
Also i have scanners OBD 1 (cp9001) which doesn't have same pins as shout box image for jumping wires and an OB2 which won't read as the car is one of them silly obd1/obd2 hybrids. So no codes.
Problem started slowly over a few months car would have longer and longer cranking times before it fired. On my way to work one day, it hit 30 mph and then dropped to 2k rpm so i limped it back home, on my next day off i went down and threw a fuel pressure gauge on it and found
No fuel pressure with just key on!
Idle 34psi
2k rpm 32psi
4k rpm 32psi
6k (just before gov kicks in) 27 psi
I can get the car started by spraying gas in to Intake (incase you are wondering how i got these readings :P )
Car will run once its started. Now another thing is that once car is warmed up its pretty much hit and miss getting it to start even if you spray gas into the intake.
I did get a response to this on the camaroz28 boards about what my fuel pressures should be and did find that my fuel pressure are low and there is no difference in pressure readings if i remove the vacuum line to the Fuel pressure regulator. Could the FPR be the problem? would it prevent the pump from priming?
Any ideas would be great.
PS the local autoparts guys even after i explained to them how to get their fancy code reader to work by manual putting the car in. still can't pull codes, and they wont just gimme the toy to play with for a sec..

Your fuel pressure is a little low. The FPR or Fuel pump or both could be the cause. Like 3800 said do you hear the pump priming? If so have you tried priming the system a couple of times before trying to start? That is done by turning the key on but not cranking, waiting for the pump to shut off and cycling the key again to reprime the engine. Do this 3 or 4 times before cranking and see if that helps. The FPR is the cheaper of the parts to replace and the simple one to test. Put a vacuum pump on the hose end and with the engine running and a fuel pressure tester on the schrader valve apply vacuum and see if the pressure changes. if it does then you are good. If you get fuel in the vacuum pump or no change in pressure, replace the FPR. If no fuel and pressure changes replace the fuel pump and filter too.
