01 3.8 Question... Service Engine Soon Light is on HELP!
Ok.. so for a week or two now of a morning time when I crank up my car i hear a bad rattling noise from up under my camaro.. it sounds awful until it gets warmed up.. and 4 nights i was driving it to a fire call(I'm a volunteer fire fighter) and the service engine soon light began flashing. I parked it for about an hour or two at the station, when I came back to drive it home the light was no longer on.. and tonight the service engine soon light suddenly came back on while driving it for about 15 minutes and is staying lit??? I don't know what causes the noise and I don't know if it has anything to do with the Service Light!! Anyone got any Suggestions for me??? If so i'd be glad to hear them... Thanks
Yea well I had the computer hooked up to it and found out that my CAT Converter was going bad... No big deal to get fixed.. but I do have a question... does it matter if I go the cheaper route and get a generic converter to replace it? or should I stick with Chevy Parts?

Same thing happened to me about a year after I bought the car brand new from the lot. Same thing happened even sooner to a friend of mine that has a Z-28. Fortunately, both of our cars were still under warranty. The guy at the service center said it would be an expensive fix if not for the warranty. I feel your pain. Now would be a good time to get those headers and nice exhaust you've been wanting. Heh
Has anyone had a 1999+ Camaro that HASN'T had a bad cat convertor on it?!

If you car is under 100K miles, you may be able to get a free replacement. Emission parts are "supposedly" guaranteed for 100K under EPA edict.
Thats only if it's still under warrenty.
I agree get a hi-flow cat. Do not get a stock type....
A good site for these questions is on www.fullthrottlev6.com The entire site is dedicated to 3800 V6 cars. I'm sure there are a few people who will be in your area and could tell you which Cat will work (emmissions testing).
