'93 Camaro Trans. Cranking All ofASudden makes fart noise and Doesnt go Drive or Rev
well it aint going to fix itself. i still think the rearend is the problem. beak one or two gears and it makes noise and goes nowhere. are you sure you mean mph and not rpms. if it is mph then it has to be between the trans and the rear tires. either drive shaft or rearend
neither will reverse.
only neutral to park it safely
when i start rpm's are fine low....and not high
if it was high the vaccuum hosing would be torn
i know since i had a torn vacuum that u were so nice in helping me find. it was a vaccuum harness shaped like a Y and plastic.
yes, then it's a rear end transm. problem
thanks, Craby.
thank you everyone who took the time to help me. i hope karma and good vibes come back and help you all a thousand fold. have a happy holiday season. if i can help with anything please let me know. thanks again
Since the engine is running and you're registering speed, your engine is fine and your transmission might be fine. There are three possibilities; you broke/sheared the ring & pinion gears in the rearend, you snapped a u-joint, or the output shaft of the trans broke. You need a helper to work the gas pedal while you look under the car to see if the driveshaft is spinning. If it's turning but not flopping around and the u-joints are in tact, then it's not a u-joint. If the driveshaft is spinning back at the rearend, then your rearend is shot. If the driveshaft isn't spinning at all, then it's the trans output shaft.
Hi, here's the update on what happened with regard to my '93 Camaro V-6 transmission problem, starts up smoothly, regular rpms, changing gears to drive or reverse causes high mph (miles per hour at 55 mph and it doesn't go forward!) ? sucks
and no movement at all and A LOT OF NOISY CRANKING, only neutral allows it to move to safe parking: moved the car yesterday to avoid getting it ultimately towed if it's not moved every 72 hrs. here in California. To add insult to injury by the way, both Registration and smog are due in February 2016. My backyard mechanic when he looked at it yesterday after propping it up on a hydro. jack said the transmission the little box at the bottom right front side of the bottom or chassis is the problem and is cranking. His other dude who charges $450 for a rebuilt trans. and $250 labor has no parking space. My landlord doesn't want a "disabled vehicle" (my camaro) on his street parking. Somehow I came into $1,500 recently....Is that enough to take to any "transmission shop," and leave it there without worry of smog or non-renewal of registration ticket in the rare chance that I have to keep the car there for 3 - 4 months while I'm saving $3200 or a little less than that? I don't want the owner to put a lien sale on my car. He has amazing reviews for the most part on yelp dot com, and surprisingly Aamco, the renowned TV commercial specialist has horrible reviews. Aamco charges $1400 (which includes labor) to get you basically a "kit" and if it's the trans., a Reman. trans. is $3,250, which includes labor. I don't want to pay extra for Aamco's inflated TV advertising costs.. *So basically, here's the crux of the question: transmissions basically (includes labor) cost at least $2,000 to $2,500. If you go to a higher end place $3,200 (includes labor), so hopefully will they "waive" storage fees or not even have them if I save up in 2-3 months to pay the difference of what I have now $1,500 to $3,200? *Basically, in other words, is $1,500 enough of "earnest money" or a downpayment which shows I'm serious (or is there a threat of a lien sale after 3 months of my trying to save the rest)? Sorry but everywhere is closed now and I'm sort of freaking out. Thanks, again.
