Default 1997 Camaro Cranking and occassional Shut off Problem

I Bought me a Fairly new 1997 Camaro RS 3800 V6 (only 66K Miles) and everything was running nicely, but one day after shutting it off I came back 15(ish min) later and wouldn't start it would crank and try and try, but still no start So I sat with it for ten more min or so and fired straight up.

The problem seemingly was gone for a while then it happened again, and again, and began to do it frequently it was almost like once warmed it WOULD NOT fire back up. a couple weeks ago I went to make a 2 Hours trip and I turned it off a hour in to make a stop, but it WOULDN'T Fire up for probably 30min. Once I got it started I figured all was well for the time being, but it actually shut off driving highway speed twice in that hour of the rest of the drive (just would flat out DIE) and I'd sit with it 20min or so trying to crank it back up every few min until it would start up.

I had taken it to Oreileys (had a check engine code light up) a month or so after buying it, and it was Crankshaft Position sensor. I had them reset the it, but the check engine light would come off and on sometimes a hour or so and even sometimes would stay on/off a week.

I ordered me a Crankshaft Position sensor in case that's the issue Here, (which if anyone has a diagram to installing it that would be VERY helpfull), but my question is does anyone have ideas to what else could be the issue here?

I'm having the same problem with mine, can't seem to figure it out and can't seem to find the answer online.

I am having the same exact issue myself. I have read up and been told by mechanics that it could possibly be the CPS, or it could be a number of other things. I also have a troubled ignition switch which could be the problem or a grounding issue. I will get my ICM all tested and let everyone on this situation know what it was so it could possibly help you if it turn out not to be the CPS. I bought a new CPS today and will try to get it in today and let you all know the outcome.

Default Thanks David

I'm also planning on replacing the cps, whenever I get time to do it. Keep us posted David.

a failing ignition control module can also do what you are experiencing.
