1993 Auto trans...is it toast yet??
Hey guys,
Would like some thoughts on the following: A guy near me has a 1993 Camaro v6 auto with 126,000 for sale. Was his brothers car who is deceased. Car was brought from Florida to NY about 5 years ago and never put on road so body is completely rust free. Was told the brother had the transmission rebuilt while car was still in Florida. Thing is with neither of them knowing what needed to be done to tow an automatic they towed the car from Florida to NY on a tow dolly with the rear wheels down. So...just how much damage was done to the transmission? The only driving that was done with the car after getting it up here was to move it around the yard. So in my mind that proves nothing. Yeah it moves but put it on the road and start driving it and I can imagine it wouldnt be long and tranny would be totally gone. I havent pulled the stick to look at and smell the fluid. Guess that would be the place to start.

Checking the fluid would be the first thing to do. If it smells burnt, consider it toast, or soon to be. Too bad they didn't know what they were doing. Hooking up a circulation pump, or disconnecting the driveshaft would have been the thing to do.
