Default Total Loss - Keep or Let Go ????

I have a 2002 Camaro T-Top V6. Love this car. While parked it was hit, bad. The driver side tire was torn out. Insurance inspected it today and called it a total loss. He said the suspension would have to be replaced. What would the cost be to replace the suspension ?

JMO - put her to sleep.
If tire was ripped off, this means the unibody is pulled/crushed and metal cannot be straightened. If straightened, it won't be as strong as original.
She may track with a dog-leg, aka, sideways.

Agreed, We are car guys so we get attached to cars. At some point you have to let go. Your car was not totaled because of the suspension issue, That is just the easiest thing to explain. All your suspension is connected to the K-member, you could buy the complete used K-member with the whole suspension for about $500 and about 10 hours to install it. But what the insurance adjuster is assuming is that when they install the K-member the K-member mounts are too bent to make it fit or align. The other risk would be if it did fit the whole car now has a twist in it. IF the car was worth 20k they would fix it, and I would suggest trading it in on the day it was done in hopes the Car fax was not updated yet.

no doubt my 95 was totaled by insurance couse cost was above value 6 months after i bought it ,i had a guy fixed for $100.less then the loss so insurance paid ,an 10 years later still rolling just fine, with mine it was the rim took the brunt of it ,though my k member was untouched ,i needed a front bumper cover rim fender door paint an rear fender was $4500.00 ,body work its more times the culprit of the cost an why so many guys fix them anyway an why so many cars die before there time ,mine has been through 2 fairly bad ones but never had frame damage .an most could never tell, body work is a racket

I guess should have asked what they valued the car at? If the value is real low they may total it just for the 10 hours labor.

I remember seeing a 3rd gen that was a total loss come through the auction that drove through a wood picket fence. The fence left heavy scraps down both sides and marked up the nose. The car would have passed PA safety inspection as it was but it wan now a salvage title because the car cost more to repaint then it was worth.

mine was $4700.00 $200 over its value then in 2008 ,an they just adjusted it back to $4500.000 or so couse i am screaming your totaling my car $200,00 over its value my thought was someone wanted my car the body shop it was took too, then my car was fixed just fine i drove it for another 35k an 7 years ,i would take a good look in there yourself i had one tell me, might be frame damage there was not you may just have a broken front strut or something brake asembley rim ,did you have any body places look at it,pictures help too with any body parts off the car to see clearly whats going on,post some that show the damage to your suspention, just parked wear was it ?,its it high miles car ,they go by shape miles an where you live an what they sell for in your area, mine was in very good shape ,though again all these years later body work cost that much more now too
