If that is the only budget you have blown, be proud. If I was closer, I would split the next $200 with you and help.

To anyone thinking pulling an engine from the bottom. You need room. I have a 23 x 20 (1-1/2 car garage). It is not big enough. I burned a lot of time getting the crane around this and around that. Looks like I have most of this sorted out. The engine is on the stand ready to be torn down.
Seem like I did not get very far but with 4 kids, One only 11 weeks, It is tuff to find time.

I also have my new motor. Well used motor. I was really hoping to use my Y-pipe with the newer manifold but I do not see how it could work. There has to be 6" differnts in the manifold. I am a little disappointed in the junk yard. Looks like they pressure washed the motor and then put it away wet. That made all the bare metal, like the pullies rust and the alum part to oxidize.

So are you doin anything to the new 3.8? If I were you while it's all ready out id port and polish head and intake & get rid of the manifolds.

This car is being built as a commuter. I drive 110 miles a day. I would like to put a set of headers onit with a CAI but I am not sure budget will allow it.(I have four kids one in diapers and another one in collage so funds are low) I was hoping to use the 02 manifolds as they flow better then the 96 manifolds. But even that is not looking good due to the lack of a Y-pipe that will fit. If I pull the lower intake I will most likely match up the ports and clean up and casting defects but port and polish is a bit more effort then I would do to a commuter.I have a 68 pickup waiting in the wings that need restores and if I want to play I can alway hop in my 67

I am not moving to fast. Xmas with 4 kids can be tuff on time and funds. I did get the 2002 motor torn down as far as i would like. Since these cars are known for intake gaskets I pulled the lower intake. Also since then engine is 6 years old Iwill be replacing the water pump. The motor is very clean. Not even a hint of sludge.

I got the intake all ready for reinstall and the valve cover preped for powder coating. I picked up a gasket kit and will install it this weekend. I hope my powder coat gets here before the weekend.

me 2... It is giving me motivation to work on my 96. I want to work with the 3.8 but being that I don't have much room or money either it is tough to get started. I have had a rear end from a 98 z28 in my garage for almost a year now. blah...
