96 camaro pcm problems
#2
The easiest route would be to obtain a PCM from the same type of camaro: V6 or V8, manual or auto, rear gears etc. You can find them on eBay or locally if someone is parting a car/junk yrad...I can't speak to the other possibilities other than I believe you can have some of the PCMs tuned to your camaro but do your research for various compatibility between the the LT1 cars or V6 and years etc....Some of the other more knowledgeable members will chime in but best wishes

The 96 and 97 PCMs are about identical. In fact it is a common upgrade when reprogramming a 96 for performance to use a 97 PCM. There are some hardware bugs in the 96 that where sorted out in the by 97.
The thing is ANY PCM you get will needed to be updated to your VIN number and to your configuration. This can be done by a the dealer or by any tuners or anyone with a copy of HP tune. To a good tuner this should be a 20 minute job with a beer in one hand.
Go to a car show or a race track. Look for cars with modified LS1's Asked who tuned it. Check with that person, tell them your situation and they should be able to give you a quote. I would expect it to be South $200 but you could get lucky and find someone that does it on the side for $50ish.
You may also find someone online who will flash the PCM for you. PCM for less used to do it but they stopped doing the 96-97 V6 for some reason. I think they where $150 ish if you sent in the PCM. They had a long forum you had to fill out describing the options you hand and the changes you wanted.
Good Luck
