1996 RS v6 Transmission swap HELP
Hey guys i have a 96 v6 3800 series 2 Camero. It has the factory 4-speed auto and i want to swap it with a standard transmission from another camero either a Z28 or another random Gen4. Question is if i pull one from another camero from the same generation can i use the stock drive shaft and rear end from the car with the auto? or will i need to pull the manual tranny, drive shaft and rear end from the donor car?

Camaro driveshafts are universal from 1982 to 2002.No difference in the rears except is some cases like the Z28 T56 6 speed have better gearing to match up with the second overdrive. The Z28 thing is not really an option. The trans bolt pattern and clutch setup is different. I know of one guy that put a 6 speed in a 3800. It cost a lot of time/money to custom fabricate the parts needed for the swap and transmission itself would cost you $1000-$1500. All that and the 3800 does not have enough low end torque to use 6th gear for anything under 80MPH.
The 96 3800 came with T5, 5 speed. It is a pretty complex process to swap, to do it right requires the PCM to be reprogrammed because it will be looking for the transmission to shift and there will not be one there.
