Default adding speakers in door panels

Random thought of the day: THought about adding some 6x9's in the carpeted area of my front door just behind where the factory mounts are. Like between the factory speakers and the little package tray thing and below the door handle. Just wondered if anyone has ever done this or if there was enough room behind the door panel??

There's not enough room behind the panel. You'd have to hack into your door and that you destroy the structural integrity of the door.

What if I utilize the factory speaker location and cut just enough of the door panel so the 6x9's would fit?

Part of the problem is your power window motor is JUST beside that opening. You might have enough room to slide it back towards the rear of the car a bit to fit the magnet, depending on the magnet size.

Once you have the door skin off, you should be able to tell if there is enough space.

I took out factory speakers, cut box off of them and glued small boxes to outer door with calk. Then raised and lowered windows to make sure they cleared windows. Next I wired 24 inches of wire for speakers to these boxes and traced out 7x10 holes to cut into fiberglass door with dremel tool then positioned 6x9 template right over door panel speakers. It only leaves a corner of old speaker cover exposed at bottom of door. this is covered enough by 6x9 covers! I then cut them door panels with dremel also. I then mounted 6x9s right on door panel then secured with nuts and lock washers. with the extra lenght on wire I laid panel down for wiring up speakers. Then I re-hung door panels

I'm interested to see the finished product, sounds a little to redneck engineered to look good. But I could be wrong. Post pics.
