My 93 Camaro will turn over and run for about 2 seconds and shut off. What is causing this and what is the vats security system? Can I just buy a replacement ignition with a key?

The fact that starter engages and turns the engine over should be indication the VATS is not the problem. Have you checked to see what your fuel pressure is? May have a bad fuel pump relay or fuel pump.

 

Yes, as Peter suggests, if engine cranks, VATS is happy. Swap fuel pump relay with another one in the relay box on drvr fender.
Do you hear fuel pump running when ign key goes to IGN? Should run for maybe a couple seconds.
