my 96 3.8 has developed a whistle at idle. it doesnt change with acceleration or engine load. its very faint but it sounds exactly like a hot kettle and can be heard inside and out. any ideas?

 

intake air control (iac) motor/valve could be dirty and letting you know.

 

i think i found it. sprayed a bit of carb cleaner around the whistle location. when i sprayed the diamond shaped plate directly on top of the engine the whistle went away. the pcv valve is under there, i will most likely replace it today.
