Default whining noise when accelerating or when car first starts

I am getting this weird whiney noise that gets louder when I accelerate or when I first start my car. Could this be the alternator going out? Please let me know what are some causes of this

My 10 cents says it's likely to be the alternator.
And I'll put 5 cents down on the power steering pump.
Have you tried putting your ear to the alternator (figuratively speaking) to hear where the whine is coming from?
This requires the daunting task of opening the hood and exploring!

First spots to look would be the belt and pulleys. You can spray a little belt conditioner or WD-40 onto the belt while it's running. Pick a spot easily accessible and away from the alternator. If the noise goes away, it's most likely the belt.

power steering pumps for the lt1 is prone to fail. no more new pumps so all are rebuilt and the main casings are getting worn at the relief valve. i have went through three in two years, one lasted two days. one i have now seems to be holding out good. im not sure on the 6s or the ls1s pumps.
