Default What are some common places to leak oil?

I have a pretty bad leak somewhere first camaro I have even owned and I love it but my land lady is getting pissed at the small oil spots on the driveway it leaks enough that i have to put some in pretty much weekly. I don't really have the tools I'm used to having so I'm pretty limited on what I can do myself, also has anyone had any issues with the car not recognizing the fab in the key and having security issues? You have to wait like 3 minutes then the security light will go back off and you can start it. Is there any way I can fix that?

Security light can only be disabled by a Chevrolet dealer.

As far as oil leaks go... Common ones are the the LIM and rear main. Rear main would obviously be a much worse leak than the LIM. Why don't you just go look and see where the oil is coming from?

Other places to look...oil pan gasket, oil pan drain plug, valve cover gaskets. The best way to find a leak is to crawl under the car and look for the mess. That's something we can't do from here.

The security light thing could be your key is getting worn or the key cylinder is dirty or worn. We had that issue and it was actually the resistor chip in the key. A Chevy dealer can test the key. If you need to have one made, make sure you have your registration and some sort of ID with you (at least that is the rules here in TN).

Well I'm kinda limited as far as crawling under the car to look for leaks because I just got stationed in saratoga springs and I have no tools and no place that allows me to pay for lift time and use their tools

think outside of the box

you only need about 5 minutes

are there no curbs? How about an incline in a driveway?

How about a little hill of grass?

All you need is to get the front end up a wee bit to crawl under.

Have a buddy with you, aim the front end at a sloping curb (not the high square ones) and get the front tires up on the curb. yes, the rear will stick out but that is why a buddy is there. Crawl under and have a looksee

Of course a vacant parking lot is best as long as there are curbs.

Oh, be sure to have a rock, piece of wood or brick, (even a bowling ball bag with the ball in it) because you should chalk a rear wheel.
