VATS problem. Security light flashing...
My 98 z28 won't start. The "Security" light flashes in the dash when I turn the key to the ON position. When I turn the key further to start the car, the Security light stays solid and the car doesn't turn over.
I used a multimeter to test the resistor on my key. I set the tester to 20K ohms and it reads 3.17. My spare key reads 3.25. Based on this chart: http://www.thirdgen.org/tech/images/...tanceTable.jpg those numbers don't fit under any category. The maximum for #9 is 3.15 - could this be the problem?
I also used the multimeter on the VATS harness connector under the dash as shown here: http://www.sparkys-answers.com/2009/...-no-crank.html - it reads 3.17 when the key is in the ignition. So I know there aren't any wires loose on the ignition in the steering column.
I don't really know what else to test. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

i suppose u could buy 15 keys each with a different resistance. lol. so the spare reads higher and it doesnt work i would guess a 10 to start with. give the local dealer a call and see if they have the key code interrogator that will work for your car. u can get a vats bypass but u need to know the key code. i know u can pick up a resistor at the local radio shack and make one for very little cost but i dont know how. do a search on this site or start a thread with that question and see if u can find anything. i know ive read it on here somewhere.
