Default VATs bypass What resistor

I have a 95 z28 and the car won't start due to the VATS system. I have seen a number of posts about bypassing this issue with the key with a resistor that matches the the chip in the key. I put the key on an ohm meter at 20K and it reads 2.96. So is that a 3 ohm resistor or a 3000 ohm resistor? what wattage?

Thank you in advance

In post #2, the VATS info are the last 3 on the list.

I have read all of this information, but i read somewhere else where they said they used a 3 ohm resistor for a reading of 2.96, but as this site has suggested ohm ratings are in the 1000's. so now i'm confused. Anyone know what resistor I need? 3 ohm or 3,000 ohm?

it seems to me obvious that it's 3K ohms, but as I said the other post suggested 3 ohms and now i'm confused.

On the 20K range you are measuring in 1K increments, so if the meter is reading 2.96 it is reading 2.96K which means 2960 Ohm. A 3000 ohm (3.00K) resistor is what you need.

I have completed and it.works fine. I would caution with this video bc it shows yellow wires. I beleive those r the airbags. Don't touch the yellow wires! Look for an orange wire. This is actually an orange casing around two white wires. The example shown in the shbox.com diagram is exact. Thanks again for the help.
