Default Question about differences in Turn Signal Switches

I need to replace the Turn Signal flasher in my 1994 Camaro 3.4 L V6 base model.
Everything else has already been ruled out and checked. I know how to get to it, I removed the panel under the steering wheel to see where it was - and it easy to reach once the panel is removed. There are just a few things I haven't really been able to easily find the answers to, such as:

- Can I use a 20 amp flasher instead of the 12.5 amp flasher?
- Do I need to disconnect the negative battery terminal before replacing the signal flasher?
- Do I need to be concerned with the air bags or anything else when changing out the
turn signal flasher?

I wanted to use the 20 amp instead of the 12.5 amp if possible, as its only 3 dollars
more and would last a lot longer. However, if I run the risk of blowing a fuse or
damaging anything then I will just stick with the 12.5 amp flasher.

- Also, I am actually changing out a fuse, correct?

When I looked on advance's and autozone's websites it had the parts listed as flashers (not fuses).

its a flasher, more amps would make it blink faster,,, i think thats how it works. less for a system that uses less amps for blubs. if you use led lights they blink fast so you have to use a flasher with less amps or use a resistor. so yep gota use the less costly one. no dont need to unhook battery and so long as your not digging around under there air bag should be ok.

Thanks craby! That was what I was thinking, I just wanted to be sure. The cheaper one is rated for 180 hours and the other was rated for 400 hours, but then again my car is stock so its probably the original flasher in it anyways that is finally failing....so the cheaper one is going to last a lot longer than I was thinking it would. WAY more than 180 hours in any case, if it is the original one that finally went. No I am not planning to dig around under there, just remove the panel & swap out the old part for the new and put the panel back on. Thanks.
