Default Transmission safe mode

I have a 93 Camaro that will only shift into reverse and 1st. I have been told that this transmission has a "safe mode", when it detects a problem. Has enyone had any experience with this type of problem? How do you clear this safe mode, assuming the problem was repaired? Thanks

I though safe modes lock the trans into 3rd gear?

Actually, I didn't know a tranny had a safe mode until this happened, and yes it is an auto. Will disconnecting the battery clear the safe mode the same as when reseting the brain box? Or was the guy that told me about safe mode pulling my leg?

Your93stilluses the old 700R4 transmission, not the newer 4L60E electronic controlled version, and has no safe mode. The reason it doesn't work is because somethingis broken or out of adjustment.

disconnecting the battery would shut off ur ses light but it will come back on when it detects a problem, not reset anything

Some computer controlled transmissions will go into "limp home mode" if the computer detects certain problems with either the engine or transmission. Being that your transmission is not controlled by the computer, resetting the computer will do nothing for your transmission. Also, in case the MIL is lit, force clearing the DTCs, will not fix theproblemthat made the MIL light up.
