Default Tires

Hey guys, I just bought a 1999 Z/28 ls1 over the weekend. I currently have 255/50r16's all the way around and they need replacing soon. I was wondering what my options were as far as sizes for the rear. I want to keep my stock wheels for the time being, but want some wider rubber in the back. Thanks for any input

245/45zr is what i have and work fine. the tire specs should state the width of rim needed for optimum performance. dont forget to vote for your pick on the july rotm

Not sure about the 16s. You may be able to get away with 275s but i have never delt with the 16s. A lot depends on what you want i recomend nitto 555Rs or if you want the best and dont plan on driving in the rain the MT DRs are a bad tire.

Your stock rims are 8" wide, for best tire wear and handling, the tread width of the tire should be within 1/2" of the rim width. If you go too wide you will have clearance problems and the tires will bow out in the center, give less traction, and wear out in the middle. If you go too narrow they will bow in at the center, give less traction, and wear the edges out. Stay with Z rated tires to avoid high speed blow outs, but choose the thread pattern for your driving conditions. All season (MS) for all around, winter if regularly drive in the winter condition, but be prepared for less traction on dry roads and poor tire wear, summer tires for best handling if you don't have to worry about snow & ice.
