Default 3.42 gears vs. 3.73 gears

i have the stock 3.42 gears or at least i think the stock gear is what is in there, my question is how much difference would i see by replacing them with a 3.73 set ? looking for both performance and "cruising" speed on the highway engine RPM differences. thank you

i assume you're manual since you say you have 3:42 stock gears...to be honest, jumping to a 3:73 really isn't going to be worth the cost. a lot of people jump to a 4:11 gear

Yeah, not enough to make a big difference in the seat of the pants.
You'd feel it with 4:10s or something like that but if you do a lot of freeway driving get ready to burn a lot more gas and don't expect much for top speed anymore.

i went from 3:23 up to a 3:42...my gears were shot so i had to do it...i noticed the difference...however i'd have liked to go with 3:73 but i do a lot of highway/interstate driving so i went with the 3:42 for that reason

Went with 3:73 in mine, just because that was what was most readily available at the time. noticed a BIG difference from the stock gears.

In your case, LEAVE EM ALONE!!! you won't feel anything.

his car isnt powerful enough to max out even 4.10 gears. his drag limited top speed will actually increase due to the mechanical advantage of the motor over the wheels at higher speeds.

and i have 4.10s in mine. at highway speeds im still only around 2krpm. not bad at all. if u have the 6 speed do 4.10s. theres no reason not to lol

i'm agreeing with spec here...4:10 sounds scary...but if i was a 6 speed i'd be putting them in

that sort of information is very important when determining drivetrain options.

u never actually told us the year and engine.....
can you give us a complete build list of the car?

wow,,,what kind of times? have it on a dyno yet? sounds hot but with high gears must have a problem hooking up. check what u have first make sure u dont already have 373s. i would say with that kind of power if u want to get fast 410 with 6 spd. if u can afford go with a 12 bolt and change the whole thing.
