Default Teeny, tiny, door panel light

So I've managed to get to the bulb and remove the bulb housing (or whatever), how do you get the little booger out of there? Am I supposed to twist, push down and twist, or just pull....It makes me crazy that just the one is out, any suggestions on the brightest replacement?
Thanks!

LED's would probably be the brightest, if you can find one that fits well. The stock is 74 size bulb...
