Default Sway bar saftey

My car is in no way setup like it should be for handling but it handles pretty good compared to the cars I learned to drive on. I do tend to drive the car like it is a Camaro. Yesterday I was merging onto the turn pike and she got squirrelly on me right at the end of the curve and I almost lost it and I was not even pushing it real hard. After a couple lane changes I knew a sway bar link broke. These cars really rely on that sway bar, had I been pushing the car hard in the corner it could have gotten real ugly for me. Corners I could take comfortably at 45 MPH with a working sway bar are scary at 35 MPH with a broken link.

Check your sway bar links and if you drive like me and they look old, replace them. The life you save may be,,,,,. I ordered a new 32mm GM Sway bar and new links and bushing for 131.00 shipped off ebay. Upgrades are nice but if you’re short on funds Auto Zone sells the stock link replacements for less then $10.

+1 to this.
Its a night and day difference when you have bad endlinks or if the endlink bushing has been eaten away. i replaced the originals with MOOG and have been more stable on the road since.

I found one of the front links was gone when I checked out my sway bar before I upgraded everything. Good reminder for everyone Gorn.

Are you getting a 19mm for the rear, or do you already have one? The rear sway bar made the most noticeable difference to me.

sway bar links are so easy to replace, and so cheap. Just did all four on the 1983 z28, and ive replaced the rear ones on my 1998 z28. the front ones are okay. i love the shiny new links too!

Last year I replaced a front drive axle i my son's Audi quattro. In the process I had to disconnect the right side sway bar link. While I was putting everything back I must have had a brain farth, and forgot to hook the link back up. I then took the car for a test drive down one of the Poconos twisty roads and scared the hell out of myself. I taught the silly car was going to lay down on its side and scrape the door handles off. So, yes, sway bars really work, but only if they are properly connected.
