SS or Z28
Which car is more powerful stock, a Z28 or SS? And which car do you guys find better overall?
I'm looking into buying a Camaro, but I don't know which is the better buy. I love the third gen like the Iroc-Z but i can't find any for sale that aren't trashed near me. So other than that i'm pretty hooked on a newer Camaro but im stuck when it comes down to it
Thanks for your help,
TY

RE: SS or Z28
they make the same power.
really the SS is a novelty, its mostly an appearance package over the z. get the SS only if you want to be able to say you have a real SS, dont get it because you think you will go faster, because you wont

Unless the car is a 96 or 97 SS in which case it makes a little more power than the Z28 from an intake that is much better and a slightly better exhaust system. On the other hand, you can get both of those parts for much less than the difference in price between a Z28 and an SS.

the regular SS is the same as the Z28, but like spec and slvr said it has an appearance package. but some SS's that were sent to SLP had different intakes/exhaust/suspension stuff that i guess would technically make them slightly faster..

RE: SS or Z28
all ss's went to slp. the factory ram air hood adds like 5 horsepower and the "performance exhaust" adds like 10 i believe. there's a sticky that z28pete posted that shows the differences from year to year. i wanna say my car came with 310 HP from the factory, however, like slvr said you can up that for less money than you'd spend for a z28 over an SS. i just like the way the SS looks more. i wouldn't trade my SS fora z28 in the same condition

some 97s were lt4.... but it was my understanding that they had the white/orange stripe deal. whammer, urs shouldnt be that from the factory unless someone goofed and painted the collectors paint scheme

RE: SS or Z28
Someone always has to bring up the LT4 SS. OK, fine, if you managed to get you hands on one of the 100 1997 LT4 30th Anniversary Special Edition (Arctic White with Hugger orange stripes, white ZR1 wheels, white interior) then yes, you have a car that has more HP than a normal Z28...other than that you get 15 HP or 0 HP if you're in a 98-2002...w00t...
