Default Service Engine Soon Flashing.

I was going to change the fuel filter, but it started spraying gas all over, so I just tightened it back up. I drove it for about a mile, and the SES light started flashing on the IP. It will flash for a bit, then go steady on, and flash a bit. The auto parts store was closed, so I couldnt get it hooked up to a code reader.

Lately, once in a while, as you start off gently in 1st or second, the car will kick a couple times, so thinking that maybe it would be a filter, I tried to change it, but now I've got that stupid orange light again. Im hoping its not the injectors, it has 164K miles on it.

i would say the fuel pump is working. the fuel line will have pressure in it. you will need to bleed it off with a pressure tester or losen the filter like before and let it leak till the pressure is out. once the pressure is out you can change the filter. get it scanned for codes and let us know what they are.

The book said that it might throw a code with an OBD 1 system, but I thought that it has an OBD 2 on a 96 Z. The last time I had a SES light, it stayed on all the time, turned out there was something wrong with the EVAP, and the check valve that comes off the exhaust manifold was bad, kept burning up the rubber hose on the other side.

Hmm, I do have a lot of stereo equipment in the car, that's a possibility.

On another subject, which injectors should I get if I need to change them? I looked, and found a couple different ones, 30 pounds/hr, 40 pounds/hr, 44 pounds/hr. Is this a good place to pick up some power? If so, what else needs to change? fuel pump, computer???

you do have obd2. at least thats what a 96 came with stock. i have used 30lb injectors with a 52mm tb. didnt make much difference until i got it tuned. the tune is the trick. dont really need the injectors or tb until you get heads p&p and improve cam/valvetrain.

I think the injectors may be starting to fail. Sometimes under light acceleration the car will kick a couple times like its picking up air or something. Im not sure its the injectors, just suspecting it.

If I could afford it, I'd put a real 350 in it but it would screw up the instruments, and I dont think it would mate up with the 6 speed. I really dont like computerized cars, just makes them complicated, expensive, and hard to work on.
