if you think theres an issue with a dirty tank and/or you wanted to check it then your gona need to get it out. i would think about waiting till the pump is out to drain it. easier to get a hose in it. lol. anyways if your just changin the pump why do it. what pump you using, oem i hope.

ya i dont know why i said drill a hole as for me every time ive drilled the tank i filled it the rest of the way with water first (then id fill the hole fill the tank back up with water and the engine and everywhere else i could put water broke a window and filled the inside with water too but thats so i could cheat the scales at the scrapyard lolol) but ya theres no reason to drain the gas if your doing the hatch

Well I really don't have $ to buy oem pump right now, its going to be after market for now, besides, If you do the hatch once, it will be easier the 2nd time just in case right. Lol btw Basic, I didn't notice you were from Simpsonville, I've been there before.

Well bad news, my friend and I changed the fuel pump, it started up nicely and everything, took it for a test drive and it worked swell. We made it back home and left the car on for a while, after like 20mins the car was on, it just turned off out of nowhere again I thought we had fixed the problem but I guess not. We left the car idling and then it just shut off while we were talking and it didn't wanna start again. Before I changed the fuel pump, that happened to me, I had to wait a while before it actually started back up. Now I'm stuck as to what the problem could be. Any ideas?

P.S. I never knew how loud the fuel pump sounded with the missing piece of metal in the hatch. It silenced once I put the piece of carpet on it.

You could have gotten a bad pump. Was it a Airtex? My first one only lasted 2 weeks and got very loud pretty quick. The second one has been in for the last 6 months. I also had an issue with the factory installed line being loose. Man I am glad I did the hatch. I had the pump out 3 times in one month.

I hope its not a bad fuel pump (We had a hard time disconnecting and connecting the hoses). When I put the new fuel pump, the car started up faster than before, It use to have a starting problem. And yes, I believe it is an Airtex. Is there anything else it could be?

Sure, anything else involved with the fuel system. It could be a bad relay or connection.

When I returned my fuel pump the guy told me 10% of these Airtex pumps fail in the first 30 days. When I mentioned it on another forum another parts guy posted it was closer to 20% then 10%.

Is it possible that it can be the coils?
