Default Security system

I recently baught a 99 v6 3.8L and I think the previous owner had a aftermarket security system installed because he lived in Atlanta. Every time I turn the car off and shut my door the horn honks twice after 5 seconds. Also the alarm starts going off after doing the simplest of things like opening my door if it’s unlocked and the car is off or trying to open the trunk after I’ve turned the car off. Things like that. Any advice on how to remove this or disable it would be appreciated

This could be because the previous owner programmed the system this way. Do you have the owners manual for the car? It will give the instructions for checking which mode the alarm is set and how to reprogram it if necessary.

Are you unlocking the car by using the key or are you using the key fob? If you have a factory security system, I believe the fob is used to activate and deactivate the alarm. Again, the owners manual will describe how the alarm works. If you don't have a copy, let me know and I will post a pdf of the section that pertains to the alarm system.
