No, and there's no way that "3 leaf clover" hub could fit back there, there isn't very much clearance between the opti and the timing cover once it's bolted on. If there was something like that jammed onto the back shaft, it would have made carve marks on your timing chain cover. I have no idea what you saw or thought you saw....so maybe there's a good reason why you now can't find it! lol

Working on these LT1's can drive a man to drink! Or maybe you thought you saw something while you were busy pulling your hair out.

You also can put a piece of plastic tubing inside the weep hole and attach a hose to the tubing and run the hose away from the opti. That shield is a good idea but if you don't want to wait for parts to get to you this is simple and a quick parts store in stock run.

That opti-spark shield makes me lol...
"Get Opti-Shield opti-spark protection and keep your car sparking down the road instead of dead in the shop."
As if a bad water pump isn't going to put you in the shop as well.
And, when all is apart replacing the water pump, only a fool wouldn't do some maintenance on the opti, since at that point you're barely minutes away from being able to remove it.
Attaching a vent hose in the weep hole is better than having an open hole exposed down low. But the issue is with lack of flow-through air, which GM later found out it needed and was the reason for the vented update. The best fix is making the non-vented model vented as shown in the link I put earlier.

okay thanks guys, i dont really have time to make it vented or wait for parts, but i could break into the issue prob after winter time and really give it that security, in the mean time these water pump gaskets are really hard to get off could i just leave them on and put sealant on it and on the pump? would it last me til winter where i can give the whole issue a good fix?

If the gaskets arent torn or scratched up, you could apply some RTV and probably get by....if they are not in good shape, use a razor blade to remove the old ones. Its not too bad, you just need to work at it.
