I wonder if I should just stick to conventional oil; the car has 140k on it (95 z28)- has never leaked or burned a drop- but I have recently moved to Vegas and thought it might be good to have to have theextra protection of syn.since it isgets sohot, and I sit in traffic more out here. I could just let the RP collect dust and get someconventional oil....I'm not sure. I dont like the idea of losing oil pressure from switching to syn. nor the idea of gaining a bunch of new leaks. However I have read RP is awesome and synthetics have come a long way in recent years....I just dont know. What oil\filter combo is the one to go with?

I use Penzoil full synthetic and a Fram oil filter and never had a problem. For me there would be no reason to go with R.P. because I've never had any issues with the oil/filter combo I use now. If it aint broke don't fix it.

If I were you I would probably stick with a conventional oil, you're going to pay a lot more for Royal Purple and it probably isn't worth the extra money. It won't necessarily "spring leaks" although that's always a possibility, more than likely instead of leaking it will start burning the oil if anything. I would say stick with the 5W-30 that the manual recommends, I personally use Castrol GTX with a Fram ToughGuard filter, they're a little more expensive than the regular Fram filters, but they do a much better job. You really aren't going to get any extra miles on the full synthetic (not safely at least) if you do mostly city driving.

isnt it bad to switch to synthetic, when ur over 60 or 70kmi, even disregarding the burning oil, and oil leaks facts? doesnt it do something to the oil "build up" in the engine? thats what my parents always said anyways. but idk.

royal purple is expensive but your not changing oil everyday.most of us have grown up hearing change your oil every 3000 miles.i think this may have changed over the years since the newer engines burn so much cleaner.i still change my oil every 3000 miles.i have a 2003 z71 and the computer will tell you when to change the oil.i change it every 3000miles and decided to let the computer tell me when to change it.i had almost 4500 miles on the oil before it told me to change it.i wasnt comfortable with this so i asked chevrolet about it and they said it all depends on how you drive as to how many miles you can go between oil changes.the computer since's the breakdown of the oil.when the oil loses it's viscosity ,the computer sense's this and tells you to change your oil.i use royal purple now that my warranty ran out and i'm changing my own oil.i figure it's like buying life insurance, how good a coverage do you want.i dont run it in my camaro yet because i only have about 1000 miles on it and figure i better let it getbroke in real good but i will eventually run it .
