Could you see smoke? I know the valve cover gaskets tend to let oil seep out as they get older. This oil makes its way to the exhaust manifolds and burns off. Is the belt is lined up in the pulley grooves correctly, and not rubbing on anything?

What did it smell like? That should tell you what is smoking...

honestly to me it just smelt like smokei havnt really worked on cars befor but yes i could see smoke when i popped the hood, and ill check on the grooves with the belt.

also after i popped the hood i took of the oil cap and some smoke was coming from there so ill add some more oil but i dnt think all of the smoke was coming from there
