Default Belt tensioner

I have a fourth generation Z28. My belt squeaks in damp conditions and I can tell a slight lose in power when i get on it. I was told that it was the belt tensioner, I had it changed and everything was okay for a couple months but the problem is happening again. I know that there is a lot of pressure on the belt and was just wondering if this was common to have the tensioner go bad often or if there was something else that was wrong.

did you replace the belt too? and what 4th gen do you have the LT1 or LS1? The LS1 has 2 tensioners you may have replaced the wrong one. Also idler pulleys can also tweet when damp.

If the squeak was not properly identified as coming from the tensioner than you may have replaced it without need/cause. My car also squeaks when wet or damp and simply giving the belt a quick squirt of WD40 stops the squeaking. I have only heard of tensioners going bad when something else also failed, such as the belt coming off or excessive force on the belt.

You may want to find out what was replaced. You have one tensioner and idler per belt and 2 belts. It could also simply be a warn belt. DO NOT spray anything directly on the belt it will shorten its life and posably cause damage to other items from slipping.

P.S. Belt conditioner is marketed for all belts but only good for V-blets.

Goodyear Gator or Gates premium are the best ways to go with these cars.
