removing my motor...quick question

Default removing my motor...quick question

i am removing my 3.8 on my 96 and i just got stuck. i got the car jacked up and i want to chain the motor to hold the motor but the point where you hook up the chain is under the firewall.......how do you hook the chain up there without tearing the firewall apart??

i dont get it... if your removing the engine why do u want to 'chain it in place'?

are you taking out the top or bottom. if top you can hook into the intake bolt holes or exhaust holes. if taking out the bottom the chain hooks to the frame on each side.

so hook it up to the frame on each side and put a jack to hold the tranny

ok i just spent 3 hours and got everything connected to the tranny off. i just want to know how did you guys remove the tranny lines and the exhaust. did you unbolt it from the headers or did you remove the whole exhaust. mine is stock..also must i remove the starter?

i took the trans lines lose at the radiator. unhooked the exhaust at the exhaust manifolds and left the manifolds on the motor. starter stayed in.

I did the same as Craby. I pretty much just disconnected everything that attached the motor and trans to the body of the car (including the brake lines going to the K member) and lowered the engine and trans out of the car as a unit. It took about 6 hours to get the engine on the floor ready to pull out from under the car. It was not that hard of a job all and all.
