All of the sudden I have a terrible rattle coming from inside the car

Not sure if its under the dash or the console. Doesnt happen all the time, just some of the time but usually in 1st gear (Trans is Auto)

Any tips on how to locate the source ? Ive tried just about everything I can think of short of tearing the car apart

I too have a wierd rattling sound coming from what sounds like my passenger fender. I think the exhaust is to blame. Only happens every once in awhile, usually at idle. Annoying

 

could be a leak in your exhaust... maybe the cat. I have a rattle in my exhaust too, possible leak at the exhaust manifolds and where the cat used to be kuz it wasnt welded properly.

As far as the other rattles. Could be something loose in your dash. I have a rattle too at low speeds/idle i suspect it to be my wonderful plastic dash.

Ok will take to muffler shop to see if they can locate it
