You are wrong, stock SS hoods are fiberglass from SLP:

The SLP SS hood scoop is not as functional as the Ultra Z design.

If preped and shot right, a paintjob on a fiberglass hood will last a long time. I don't have a problem with a SS "style" hood on a V6, just don't badge it as a SS.

Wow, all great replies. I never thought I was going to get +100 hp or any thing like that. I'm to the understanding that the best you will get is 10 to 15 hp and better gas mileage because the car is running leaner.

I just found a standard hood at a for $175 so I will probable get that. If I can find an SS hood, that would be great. (Please note, I don't plan on badgeing it.)

I am going to have to respectively disagree with you on the statement that the stock ss hood are steel. They are a 2 piece composite bonded hood. The top part is of course the hood scoop and the exterior of the hood, and the bottom part is the underneath with all of the ram-air plumming. I also totally agree with you about not badging the v6 or z28 car with SS badges. Now if you already have and are planning to do so it is your car and to each his own.

If I remember correctly, the '96 SS release date was pushed back due to issues with warping of an early run of hoods due to composite problems.

I know the one my 2000 had was steel because you could see the welds on the underside, and where the hood props where out on the side had wore off the paint so you could see the metal.
