Short block comes home tomorrow, wewt.

Started into my heads also. Not sure if I'll do a writeup, I have a problem with focusing on my work too much to stop and take pics, if that's a problem

I had the block resurfaced, had the cylinders honed (my ball hone gave them too rough of a surface), cam bearings had to be replaced due to the grinding, had the mains line-honed, rods were re-sized for the arp bolts, went with some clevite main bearings (scoggin sent me the wrong bearings), and it got a final cleaning. I'll be painting it silver this week. Heads will be done this week also, and sent out to the shop in 2 weeks (due to vacation)

Cam is also going to be (most likely) the ARH NA cam, since my heads aren't going to be what I had planned.

Short block is home, looks great. I'll post pics tomorrow. I put the crank in tonight, I'll put the rods/pistons in as soon as I get my ring file and ring compressor in. Ring gaps are a little too tight, so I need to file them down. Clearances so far are dead on.

Parts to order this week/next week:

Paper timing cover gasket (blue metal felpro one is known to fail prematurely)
Cometic Head Gaskets (4 layer .052, will raise compression just a bit)
Locks
Retainers
Comp 130# springs
comp rocker bolts (reusable unlike the stockers)
oil pump cover bolts (stripped the heads on a few of mine when they didn't want to come out)
cam (will be as big as I can go without cutting the guides, saves $$ on machine work, keeping specs to myself since I don't want a clone of my motor floating around somewhere)

Then I'll have the heads surfaced and get the valves cleaned up. I'll also have them mag'd just to be safe. Might shave .010" off the heads for some more compression, but I'm on the fence about that. More metal = stronger heads. We'll see.

Progress on my port job is slow, been focusing on the shape of the exhaust port. I'm 89% sure that I've got it just right, so I'm going to move ahead finally. Motor isn't too far from being done, got the big stuff taken car of, moving on to the final details.

A Build thread that i'm actually following. You seem to have done your Homework Music. I comprehend most, but about 25% goes right over my head.

Still learning

Here's a few to get you guys started, not much to look at right now. Block is still in it's original paint, won't be the case for much longer. Cell phone pics, kind of fuzzy. The last pic shows the cam bearing I pressed in to plug off the rear oil hole since my balance shaft is gone forever. It's the small bearing in a Dodge 440 magnum big block cam bearing set. You can also drill and tap the hole, but I like the bearing method since it isn't permanent.

Yeah, those are harbor freight sockets, I didn't feel like rolling my big box out of the shop over to the garage.
