A big cam on a otherwise stock engine will not accomplish much except for giving you all sorts of driveability problems. To make good power throughout the RPM range the cam, heads, intake, exhaust, compression, and engine displacement have to be matched to work with each other. You can put a pro stocker cam with a 1" lift in and square lobes in your basically stock engine, and all you will get is broken parts. I get a bad feeling when anyone wants to install a used cam, there must be a reason why the seller wants to get rid of it.

I agree with pete. This is the biggest that comp sells. Also if this cam has been in two other cars it probably has a bit of where and tear on it. And as pete said there is always a reason. I would step down to something like me or spec had suggested but its up too you. You will sacrifice a good bit of low and even some mid range power to this cam.

If he had an LS1 I would say he could toss this cam in safely, not necessarily a good idea just because it's safe though. Since he has an LT1 I would say the cam has way too much lift, the stock heads are not designed to accommodate such a large lift.

But once again its his choice. Just be aware of some of the cons to it and read over some of the good advice given here. If you need any more info fill free to post up and we will do our best to help you however we can.

The lift is good, I wouldn't recommend going too much higher with that, especially with the 1.6 RR instead of the 1.5 that those numbers are coming from. It looks a little extreme on the duration side, both intake and exhaust. Do you have heads to match the cam?

saw ur youtube vid slvr.. cool camaro dude...

nope i dont have heads to match... my engine is all stock from the inside.. i got only boltons..ok now i learned abit about cams.. lift is about the valves lifting for more gas amounts to enter and leave the chamber... but what can u tel me about the duration part?.. soo what if the duration is high.. and what if too low?

thanks

Unfortunatly I don't have time to type up a whole description of what different durations do for you. Cliff Notes version says the higher (longer) duration you have, the longer the valve (whether that be intake or exhaust) is open. A shorter duration will produce more low end torque and a higher duration will produce more top end power. The detriments with going with a very long duration is you start to lose engine idle vaccume to operate your power brakes etc. and you start to lose idle quality (this combined with lobe separation is what determines the idle). As you increase duration of either intake or exhaust you increase the valve overlap time. This is the time that both the intake and exhaust valves are open, it allows for more flow at higher RPM, but it hurts idle.

Here's a good guide to picking our your camshaft. The guy that wrote the guide works at a shop that is local to me, got a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder (w00t!!) and gets some amazing numbers out of cars (as you can see if you browse through the main page). http://www.dragonrace.com/
(go to Tech and FAQ on the left side of the page, there's a link to the camshaft protion, it's all good reading)

And Here's a general guide that describes in not too much detail the different aspects of a cam.

cam tech is still very much in its growing stages. once a car is set up to run an aftermarket cam, there are a number of people that will make cam swaps every season. This is how I came upon my used TSP cam. the previous owner wanted to find different combinations to see what he liked best. the design of the camshaft really doesnt yield itself to a whole lot of wear unless something is wrong like valve float or mis-alignment. especially in the era of hydraulic roller lifters......... 20 years from now you could take a cam out of a genIII motor and slap it into anything applicable and expect perfect performance. I realize were talking GenII with this particular thread. I just dont feel as if the reason a seller wants to get rid of it is necessarily negative.
