Default out of fuel/check engine soon

my 97, 3.8L ran out of fuel. i went and refueled,i added about 2 gallons .i went on a 4 mile drive and the check engine soon light came on.How do i fix this irritation.my camaro has a new fuel filter and fuel pump.

The usual way. Get the car scanned & see what the light is complaining about. If you keep running out of fuel you will need tosoon put inanother pump.

Well if you have a CEL, your car is telling you something is wrong. You need to get the codes and see what the problem is. I think autocenter does it free for you.

Well if you want to ignore it then, you can get a 0BD2 scan tool at most repair shops or if you want much easier way, then unhook the battery for 30 seconds. ( don't recommend that)

Since it happened right after putting gas in the tank, check to make sure your gas cap is on right & tight. A loose gas cap will set off the check engine light because an improper sealing cap affects your emissions, and your computer will pick it up.

thanx for the info fellas, im just waiting to get paid and start investing into my camaro. i've had her for a week and she's just been sitting in front of the house (and now shes mad at me).thanx again !!!

Definitely do what Camaro69 said. Thats actually happened on a view of my older vehicles. You could have some air in the fuel lines from essentially running on fumes, but I'm sure it worked its way out on the way home.
