oil pressure
Hello
im new here so sorry if this has been asked to death already.
I just bought a 1999 Z28 with 66k miles on it. I noticed that when its warmed up and driving downt the freeway, the oil pressure is a little above 40 pounds. When i stop it goes half to three quarters toward 20 pounds and I can see the needle fluctuating back a fourth a bit. I just changed the oil and put mobile one in it. Is this normal or should i be worried.
Thank you
Joe

Don't worry about it, relax, that is the way it is supposed to work. That is the reason that most cars don't have oil pressure gages, they make people worry for no reason. LOL
By the way, did you change the oil filter also? Don't make sense to change the oil and keep a dirty filter, so that it can contaminate the new oil.

It is possible that you're low on oil, or there's an issue with the pickup. Your oil pan is deeper toward the rear of the engine than the front. What happens when you stop is your oil moves toward the front of the engine, and your pickup tube isn't pulling as much oil as it should, thus your oil pressure going down. If it's going down all the way until you get the check gages light, sounds like low oil.
How much oil do you put in it? As much as the owner's manual says, or as much as it takes til the dipstick reads full. Either way will work.
