Default Newbie V6 to V8 questions....

Hello all, new to the forum, first post.

Long story short.... I have a new GM crate motor in my garage looking for a home. Had plans to put it in my Landcruiser, but I can't bring myself to go pound that brand new engine offfroad.

Just came across a 93' Camaro today, very nice car with a tired V6 in it. How many headaches am I going to run into putting a carburated smallblock and a Muncie 4-speed into this thing??? I'm used to old school hot rods and the way that motor sits so far back under the windshield kinda freaks me out. Is there even room to put a carb and air cleaner set-up in there?? I did some quick research and it looks like the front cradle is different for a V8 car. A buddy at work thought there was a relatively cheap V8 motor mount kit available for the V6 cradle. Are there any major hurdles I will run into in this project??? I'm not afraid to "modify to accomodate" at all. Any insight is much appreciated.

Normally I'd take the time to research this on my own, but this deal might not last long.

Thanks, Mike

I've only been a member of CF for a few months, but have seen this same question asked over and over and time and time again the answer is "It's just not worth it" You'll have to cut and modify the firewall so the distrubitor will fit. A cowl hood is also a must. And far as motor mounts go you're pretty much on your own. All of the successfull swaps I've heard of include a entire front assembly with motor intact from a donor car. But if your up for a callenge get out your torch, welder, and grinder and have at it. but be sure you keep us updated so we know how it works out.

You buddy is wrong, No kit I am aware. I can not image much of a market for it. The K member itself is a pretty small part of the convertion. There is almost no room for your V8s carb or distributor. you would need a cowl hood and forget ever working on the distributor while the motor is in the car assuming you can get it to fit. Even if it was a V8 car you would have a bunch of headaches the V6 means your going to need a the brakets and stufff from a V8. Go find a 3rd Gen let the 4th gen be. With the 3rd gen everthing will bolt up and you might increase the value of that car.

Default Thats what I thought....

I figured it was too good to be true! Thanks for the quick replies, I'll sleep better tonight HAHA!!! If any one knows where there is a decent roller in the WI area please let me know. Doesn't really need to be a Camaro, just needs to have a back seat. We have two young boys that need a place to sit too!!!!

Thanks, Mike
