Default a new car and another swap

so, i am thinking about taking my ls1 and possibly the 6-speed and rear end out of my camaro and installing it into a 1998 corvette. does anyone know how well the engine, tranny, and rearend will match up. with the little knowledge i have about covettes i figured the engine should atleast be able to match up since they are both LS1. if the rearend wouldnt be a good swap, would i be able to at least swap the gears, because i have 3.73s in my camaro rearend.

Thanks for any information!!

I am no corvette expert but I think the 98 is a C5? that means the transmission is in the rear. The only thing the Camaro would have in common is the motor. Nothing else would even be close to fitting correctly.

The motor would work, but the transmission is mounted in the rear on C5s. And they have an independent rear suspension, as well. Even the width of the rearend from your Camaro would be wrong for a C5.

Corvette has had IRS since the first Stingrays back in 1963. The engine will be the same but it will not have the same power of the LS1 that came in the Vette from the factory.

Default Engine Swap Corvette

Yes the engine will fit, nothing else from the Camaro will. To complete the engine swap you will be unbolting the whole chassis from the body of the Corvette, it comes apart as a unit. I did one of these a few years back, and I will NEVER do that again. I even had a lift, not a hoist, an actual lift. I have swapped other engines, and would even do a 3.8 to LS1 swap in a Camaro again, but not this one. The thought of this swap has me screaming in agony UNCLE!!!.
Besides the Camaro engine in a Corvette is quite the downgrade. The oil pan is different if I remember right, there are alot of minor differences you don't know about until you encounter them. I wouldn't tell you no, but I would approach this idea with serious caution.

yeah the last swap i did was from my totaled '98 6-speed z28 to a '95 v6 auto. that wasnt too bad(other than we ended up making our own wiring harness from what survived the crash). the LS1 i have was rebuilt from a bare block and has some performance parts(cam ect.), so i kind of want to keep that. i guess if i end up doing the swap i'll find out what bolt ons are better and put them on my LS1 such as the oil pan. Is the wiring under the hood all the same??

Why swap an ls1 into a 98 vette when it already has a ls1?
