New alternator, now check gauges light
Bought a 2000 3.8 Camaro for a commuter so i could work on my 04 6.0 powerstroke and now i have 2 turds lmao. So a few weeks ago i would start this beast up in the morning for work and heard a metal screeching sound when cold. Thought nothing of it and kept driving it. Got worse. Pulled the belt off after work and checked all my pulleys and tensioners and found that the alternator bearing was worn out. Replaced it with a carquest reman as they didnt have any new options, thought "its my commuter i picked up for 1500 so screw it". Replaced it at work, quick, easy installation. Hopped in and started it to find the check gauges light on. Let it idle maybe it will turn off. didnt. Put the old alternator back on and it turned off never to come back on. Drove 2 hours to see some old friends in another town. Bought another at orielys and installed, check gauges came back. All gauges are good with the exception for fuel gauge flucuates at idle only with the new alts. Prev owner told me the fuel level is always wrong and to never trust it but i never had an issue myself. New alts are putting out more voltage it seems looking at the guage anyway. Any input will be greatly appreciated
