Default need advice on basic engine building

ok so I got a 1995 Z28 and I am planning on eventually building the car up but before I get into any heavy building I was wondering what are some moderate things I can do to the engine to gain some noticeable gain in horse power?

Headers, catback, cold air. Those are the main 3 things to get power. Then cam, heads, port and polish intake and heads, tune.... List goes on. Hope this helps you a little.

+1 What he said.

And depending on how much you like corners, I suggest upgrading the shocks. The list can go on for that too...

replace the torn seats or buy the nice covers from coverking at amazon.com

sure, they cost a pretty penny but they look nicer than your torn seats

replace the worn rug

sand it down and repaint and clear. Get rid of the salad shooter rims

replace that slow window motor. You'll appreciate that more than 10 HP

and don't use 87 or 89 octane fuel

If you decide bricks are too soft for your taste, I would suggest SLP Bilsteins or Konis if you have the money.
