So my car completely **** itself as I was driving away from my house. No problems as I was leaving, until about one block away when the car just lurched and I heard alot of loud mettalic banging noises and it stopped (only going about 15). I wrestled it into gear and managed to pull forward to a parking spot. The car will not only roll if the clutch is in, and will not roll even in neutral unless the clutch is in. Even in neutral the car will turn off unless I press the clutch in.
Any suggestions? How much will a new tranny cost and where can I get one?

 

Well, some unfortunate news for you is that it sounds like your transmission is shot. If it were just your clutch you probably wouldn't move in any gear, but you for sure would be able to have the car in neutral without the clutch depressed. New transmissions are not cheap, but I'd check with your local junk yard and see what's local to you.

This blows. I just got a job after being unemployed for 6 months, I have no money and I don't start for another month or get paid for almost 2.
Sorry for the rant, this is just another problem in this insurmountable week of problems.
