The only time I did repairs not rebuilds was when the car was still under GM's warranty. Those parts seem expensive but if you do not put the clutchs in now you could be looking at another $1800 repair in just 3 months.
Since you have no idea what caused this failure or how the car was treated for the last 8 years you should think hard about the rebuild. The other thing the rebuild does is it takes away ammaco's excuses. If they do a rebuild anything goes wrong it on them. If they do a repair and something goes wrong there will be no way of proving they screwed up or something else failed.

Edit: From your posts I can assume you got the car cheap. You most likely got the car cheap because of the transmission issue. If you fix the trans right its a $8,000-$9,000 car. You just got the car, fix it right. It could last you a long time, Dont fix it right and it could be a pain right up till you sell it to some other sucker.
as you said i will fix it right! so i will be paying 2600$

5char means 5 characters. There is a 5 character posting requirement, and my quote counted for zero.

No senior!!! I was there doing the same thing you were. Looking to have my tranny checked out cause I was having problems with it. Luckly I got them at the end of the day and the tech who was looking on my car checked it out and said that I just had a bad sensor and I could get it my local auto store for a few bucks. He wanted to get out of there and just told me what the problem was. He's the one who told me that they would say I needed to rebuild it regardless of how small the probelm. Another plus was that he was a Camaro lover like me and owned a 97 LT1 so he and I started talking cars.
