For some people that is too much... for someone who doesnt know how to replae a tranny, no its a decent (little high) price. You might want to check around though.

Yes too high! Get your car out of there because regardless of what's wrong with it they are going to tell you that it needs to be rebuilt. Even if it just needs a new sensor! That's how they make their money! A Aamco trans tech told me that! Big surprise there huh? NOT! If you're sure the trans is gone then do like already suggested. Get a used one for a few hundred. It will last until you have the money or you win the lotto to get a rebuilt one.

Forget what Z28Rob18 said. He is assuming you can or want to modify your to a race car. The 350/400 would kill your gas mileage. It would also require a lot of mods that you can not do.

Are you getting ripped off? No not really you are just paying full retail CA price for new transmission.
What they are offering is the cheap route, fix the bare minimum and get you back on the road. You basicly will have very little warranty. Your second offering is a complete rebuild and/or a replacment that is rebuilt. This will come with their full warranty. I can not tell you how high they are cause they are so far away but if you remember I told you 1500-2000. If you do think they are to high now you are talking something any tranny shop will quote you over the phone, I complete rebuild. Get out the phone book.

What you do is up to your situation $1500 and roll the dice. $2300 and have a warranty. If you do not know the history of the car there is no telling what they will find when they open up that case. I would lean toward the rebuild.

i wasnt suggesting he buy one because it takes alot more then he'll probably ever do to need one of those i was just sayin that ive seen them sell for the price that he was quoted. but from what ive learned from reading this thread id agree with you.

AAMCO is horrible. NEVER take your car to a chain transmission shop. EVER. Find a local, reputable shop and have them rebuild your transmission, and maybe beef it up a little bit.

AAMCO= All Automatics Must Come Out
